In
a world of Multi Media, we need to recognise the powerful and permanent
impact that it has on the way children learn.
They
are able to multi task a number of information streams... simultaneously.
Their ability to process information is fast and varied. Yet, teaching
can be, in its delivery a single track, one step at a time process.
The
consequence is student disengagement.
Our
challenge is to understand the new generation "M" learners,
we need to be always aware of the Habits of Mind that drive them. If and
when we acknowledge that the way young people learn has changed then we
can begin to modify our delivery strategies.
eBytes
are a response to this new challenge.
eBytes
(engagement Bytes) are:
- Single
file web pages that offer a quick engagement "grab" to a topic
as opposed to the more complex Webquest format
- Multi
media in composition
- Highly
visual in engagement
- Scaled
in engagement allowing for extension activities
- Customised
to suit the target audience and easily "edited on the go"
by the teacher
- Collaborative,
in that they can be 'bolted' to an Intranet or Internet site for "all"
school access.
- Cumulative,
allowing for a "knowledge bank" for sharing and building.
- Easily
constructed using MS Publisher (2003 +) in web page format.
